4 Canadian road trips to take this fall

(NC) There’s nothing quite like the charm of fall, and just about nowhere does it better than Canada. As the leaves begin to change, it’s a great time to consider taking that road trip you put off all summer. Here are four local, scenic routes for every kind of traveller:

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia: This famous route in Atlantic Canada is considered one of the most scenic in the world. As you drive through the winding roads you will take in stunning cliffside ocean views. Travellers can experience hospitable Acadian culture and freshly caught seafood, making it a must-try for any passionate road tripper.

The Eastern Townships, Quebec: This is a hidden gem just two hours from Montreal. The region is known for its wine and apple producers, and many of the country roads wind through orchards and vineyards. Combined with rustic architecture, it’s a lovely route for taking it slow and enjoying local farm-to-table restaurants.

Algonquin Park, Ontario: This 56-kilometre stretch goes through Ontario’s most famous park. Here you can enjoy hiking trails, kayaking, looking for wildlife or just take in the fiery colours of the fall foliage.

Kootenay Rockies, British Columbia: With school back on and the tourists thinning out, this drive can be even more enjoyable. Going from Cranbrook to Nelson, you’ll take in the changing trees with the mountain backdrops and fall in love with Canada all over again. Plus, after a day behind the wheel, you’ll appreciate soaking in the relaxing Radium hot springs.

When you hit the road, look for accommodations that work for you. Some options, like Choice Hotels Canada have locations in hundreds of communities across the country and a loyalty program.

With beautiful vistas in every part of Canada, it’s hard to go wrong when picking a road trip destination. Take in the local culture and offerings to complete your experience and enjoy a local vacation you’ll never forget.
