How to reduce the impact of financial stress on your work

(NC) Almost half of working Canadians admit that stress related to personal finances has had an impact on their performance at work. With the ongoing economic uncertainties, many of us could feel this stress even more. Worries about money not only feel bad at home, but they can also distract us from our jobs and impact productivity, which can cause us even greater anxiety. But there are ways to tackle these challenges.

If your workplace doesn’t have a financial wellness program, this could be something to propose. Many employers already recognize the advantages of providing pension and retirement savings plans, wellness programs and health and other benefits for employees. A financial wellness program is a natural extension of these existing benefits and complements other employee programs, so it’s worth investigating. It can be empowering for employees and help everyone feel more productive and engaged.

Whether or not your workplace is on the same page about financial wellness, you can also make use of resources yourself to feel more in control. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada has tools, such as their budget planner, to help with creating a spending plan, dealing with debt and planning for retirement.
