Care package ideas for family and friends

(NC) Care packages have seen something of a resurgence in the last few years. With people isolating for extended periods of time, showing love with a personalized box of gifts became the only option for some.

It’s still a great way to show someone that you care. Want to put one together but don’t know where to start? This list has you covered:

Hobby box. If you know someone has a particular interest, putting together a box they love can be easy. Know a knitter? Pack a few varieties of yarn, a pattern book and some stitch-counting tools. With a hobby box, replenish their stock of items you know they’ll go through. Don’t worry about the core items of their hobby – they’ll already have things they’re comfortable with.

De-stresser. Always a classic, the key to a great de-stresser box is to mix in some ways you know the recipient already likes to relax with new options like candles or bath salts. Just try to avoid glass items when you’re sending a care package. If you have to pack glass, always make sure to use plenty of bubble wrap to reduce the chance of breakage.

Snack box. The trick to pulling off a snack box is to focus on food you know the recipient can’t get their hands on. This type of box often works best for someone who moved away from their hometown – some treats from their favourite bakery back home will be sure to put a smile on their face.

If someone wants to send you a care package from outside Canada, remind them never to send any pork products into the country. African swine fever, known as ASF, is a global animal health issue, and an outbreak in Canada could lead to devastating consequences for our pigs, farmers and economy. Think about what kind of package would cheer you up the most and remind friends and family abroad to leave the pork at home.
